The company Maté-Santé, the first company to import and distribute “Yerba Maté” in Belgium, was founded in November 2021.
More and more sportsmen and insiders are convinced of the extraordinary properties of this ancestral drink full of nutritional qualities.
This is why Maté-Santé wanted to make it better known in Belgium.
For centuries, the Ilex paraguariensis plant has been used as a source of energy and vitality.
For the Indians, it was a drink offered by the gods to strengthen warriors. Today, science is helping to prove the indigenous belief: yerba mate contains nutritional properties beneficial to the human body, with natural stimulants, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals.

Rei verde
Ervateira Rei Verde Ltda was founded on 23 May 1985 by Mr. Odilo Vier, a businessman with experience in the yerbas mate sector since 1944.
Currently, the company has four operating units and eight sets of dryers that carry out the main stage of the mate industrialisation process.
The company’s philosophy is : quality. As such , the regions in Brazil where the industrial are located have been carefully selected.
The result is Rei Verde mate with its special characteristics and flavour.
Baldo
The Baldo company, based in Brazil, is one of the largest exporters of yerba mate.
Its history began in 1920 when brothers John, Anthony and Luiz Baldo, sons of Italian immigrants, started a small yerba mate factory in Vespasiano Correa, Rio Grande do Sul.
1970: The head office was moved to Encantad, Rio Grande do Sul.
In the 1980s, they partnered with the Uruguayan company Canarias.
Today, Canarias brand products account for more than 60% of mate consumption in the country. The following years were marked by constant growth and innovation.
1994, first yerba mate processing unit with its own patented technology. 2008: collaboration with the company Bremil.
A long history to become the largest exporter of yerba mate Baldo in Brazil and one of the 200 largest companies in the southern region.
Baldo yerba mate is made from the best products in the country.
Canarias
From its very beginnings, the company has been imbued with a strong social commitment, especially to the community of the town of Pando in Uruguay . This imprint comes from the founders themselves, who had a vision of solidarity and humanity reflected in their commitment to the inhabitants of the town where the company was born. They promoted the commercial and industrial development of Pando.
As the company entered the 21st century, it modernised its management. Now characterised by a more global and integrative vision, including social aid within the framework of corporate social responsibility, working in the areas of ethics, quality of life and work practices, the community, the environment and the value chain.
Canarias is one of the most important and well-known brands in Uruguay and Brazil. The company offers yerba mate of the highest quality.
Canarias Yerba Maté is produced in the south of Brazil, in the states of Santa Catarina, Paraná and Rio Grande Do Sul.
The climate in this region of Brazil is ideal for maturing the mate leaves.
Las Marias
Almost a century ago, Don Victor Navajas Centeno had a vision to take advantage of the lands of the estancia “Las Marías”, located in the Argentine province of Corrientes, to start his first mate plantation. He was surely inspired by the proximity of the Paraná jungle where the Guaraníes were already making and consuming mate.
After establishing his farm in Las Marías, Don Víctor decided to take charge of the entire maté production process, from the seed to the packaging. In the way, he was able to control and guarantee the quality of the maté right from the start.
Thus, in 1940, the Taragüi yerba mate was put on the market, quickly becoming a reference for connoisseurs.
Today, Las Marías stands out as the most important producer of mate in the world.
Colonia Liebig
Since the end of the 19th century, successive contingents of immigrants have arrived in Argentina in search of peace and work. Among them, a large group of Germans, especially agricultural producers, settled in the north-eastern part of the province of Corrientes.
They were joined by other immigrants who had already settled in the south of the province of Misiones, in the town of Apóstoles; this group of people was the basis of the model of cooperative societies as a form of organisation of the solidarity economy.
This is how the Colonia Liebig Ltda. agricultural cooperative was founded, which today, on its 95th anniversary, is made up of 126 associated producers who have fulfilled the dream of these immigrants.
With an annual production of 36,000 tons of processed product ,the Playadito brand, is the leader in the Argentine market, and is present in 12 countries.

HREÑUK S.A.
In 1936, Mr. Demetrio HREÑUK, son of Ukrainian immigrants, with the active participation of his wife Catalina, founded a family business which in the first years was dedicated to the planting, harvesting and drying of yerba mate. In 1966, he acquired his first mill and began marketing processed yerba mate. This is how Yerba Mate ROSAMONTE was born.
Over the years, the company HREÑUK S.A. was founded on the same trunk and extended its production, processing and marketing activities to other areas of economic activity, adding tea, aquaculture, livestock, forestry and slaughterhouses.

How to prepare a perfect Mate
The quality of yerba mate
Most importantly, choose a yerba of good quality. It should be green in colour with yellow highlights and consist of a homogeneous combination of powder, leaf and stem. It should be dry and slightly crackling. The aroma should be fresh and slightly roasted, while the flavour should contain a hint of bitterness.
Steps to prepare a perfect Mate :
- Fill ¾ of the mate with yerba mate.
- Turn the jar upside down and shake vigorously so that all the components mix evenly.
- Slowly replace the mate, making sure the container is at a 45° angle so that an opening remains. Pour in a jet of warm water (a temperature of 70° C to 80° C is recommended) to moisten the base.
- Insert the bombilla by pressing on the inner wall of the container and avoid moving it.
- Add the water gradually in the direction of the bombilla.
It is done! The result is a frothy infusion with a long-lasting mate-spice flavour.
